One of the most picturesque cities I’ve been to, San Miguel de Allende is a beautiful colonial town popular with both travelers and expats. My time I spent there mostly consisted of trying as many bars and restaurants as I could. While I only scratched the surface, below are some of my favorites for every meal and mood!

Breakfast

  • Lavanda Cafe-I became a regular here and was addicted to their iced cappuccinos and eggs benedict! They also have a togo window when short on time

  • Cafe Oso Azul-If there was a long wait at Lavanda, I would go up the street to Cafe Oso Azul-plenty of options and great service!

  • Buonforno-I normally am not a huge pastry lover, but every one I tried here was amazing. This was just down the street from my AirBnb and perfect for a quick coffee and pastry togo in the morning—try the almond croissant, it’s delicious!

Lunch/Dinner

  • Quince-if looking for a nicer dinner or celebrating an occasion, Quince is definitely the place to check out. Great menu with an extensive wine and cocktail list makes it perfect for a night wanting to treat yourself!

  • Hecho en Mexico- there is something for everyone here and located in the cutest courtyard. I ate here a couple of times and always was a great experience!

  • La Posadita-next door to Quince, another great option for a nice dinner out

Bars

  • La Azotea-my favorite bar in San Miguel, this had two of my favorite things: rooftop views and spicy margaritas! Yes, every bar has spicy margaritas, but these were my favorite!

  • La Oficina-perfect for a nightcap, this was located on the way back to my AirBnb, so perfect for one (or two) more last drinks! A lot of mezcal options and cocktails as well.

  • Selina- The rooftop of the Selina hostel is the tallest rooftop bar in San Miguel and had great views of the city and great drinks as well! My second favorite spicy margarita was here

Dessert

  • Chocolates y Churros San Agustín-if craving something suite this restaurant has amazing churros and hot chocolate. Get the churros either plain or stuffed and you can also take togo as it gets crowded often!

Notable Mention: Taco and Tequila Tour

  • Apparently, my hobby throughout my time in Mexico was to take Taco tours and this was an excellent option to find great spots throughout the city and learn about the history at the same time. One of the stops, Andy’s Taco Cart, was my favorite and I returned often for some late night al pastor taco drunchies!
